Frequently asked questions

How do the compression levels differ?

High compression gives the smallest files by lowering quality and limiting very large photos to 1600 px on the long side. Medium (2560 px) is the best balance for most photos. Low keeps near-original quality and only trims the size lightly.

Which formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WEBP. By default each image keeps its type; PNG files without transparency are saved as JPG for a much smaller size, and PNGs with transparency are saved as WEBP so they stay transparent.

Can the file get bigger?

Never — if an image can't be made smaller, PDFly keeps the original and tells you it was already optimized.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

Is it free, with no limits?

Yes. No account, no watermark, and no limit on how many images you compress.
