Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and its text is read in your browser. In Chrome, with a built-in translator, the text is also translated on your device. Otherwise only the extracted text, never the file, is sent to our translation service. It is not stored.

Which languages are supported?

Arabic to English and English to Arabic. The direction is detected automatically, or you can choose it yourself.

Does it keep the original layout?

Yes, by default. Your original pages, images and colours are kept and only the text is replaced with the translation, written in our fonts. Very complex layouts may need a check, and you can choose a clean text document instead.

Can I translate a scanned PDF?

A scanned PDF has no selectable text. Run it through the OCR PDF tool first, then translate the result.

How accurate is the translation?

Machine translation is good for understanding and drafting, but it can make mistakes. Read and edit the result in the review screen before you download, and use a professional translator for legal, medical or official documents.

Is it free?

Yes. Large documents may be limited by a daily allowance on the translation service, and you can try again later or use Chrome's on-device translator.

Does it work with Arabic PDFs?

Yes, as long as the text is real Arabic text. Older PDFs that store Arabic in reverse order are detected and fixed where possible. The Arabic output is right-to-left with proper letter shaping.
