How to Make a Transparent Signature PNG for Free

PDFly guide ยท Updated October 2026

A signature image with a transparent background is handy everywhere: Word documents, Google Docs, email footers, invoices, slides. The usual way is to photograph your signature, then fight with an image editor to remove the white paper. Here is a faster route.

Why PNG with a transparent background?

A JPG always carries a white rectangle. Put it on a coloured table cell or over a stamp and the rectangle shows. A PNG can store transparent pixels, so only the ink is visible and the signature sits cleanly on any background.

Make one in under a minute

  1. Open PDFly Sign PDF and press Create a signature PNG (no PDF needed).
  2. Pick a tab: Draw (mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus), Type (your name in a handwriting style) or Upload (a photo of a signature on white paper).
  3. Choose black or blue ink. Blue is a classic choice because it reads as "signed by hand" on a printout.
  4. Press Save as PNG. The file is cropped tight around the ink and the background is transparent.

Already placing a signature on a PDF? The same Save as PNG button appears in the signature box next to Cancel, so you can keep a copy while you sign.

Keep it safe

A signature image can be copied by anyone who gets hold of the file. Store it somewhere private, and do not post it publicly or send it in bulk. PDFly creates the image inside your browser and does not upload it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the background really transparent?

Yes. The PNG contains only the ink, so it works on coloured or patterned backgrounds.

Can I make it from a photo of my signature?

Yes. Use the Upload tab with a photo of a signature on white paper. The white background is removed.

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is created in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I make a signature in Arabic?

Yes. Draw it, or type your name in Arabic, and save it as a PNG.
