Frequently asked questions

Is this like Excalidraw?

It is a similar idea: an infinite canvas for quick sketches with a hand-drawn look. It is a separate tool built into PDFly, and it works the same way for basic drawing: shapes, arrows, lines, freehand, text and images.

Is my drawing uploaded or saved on a server?

No. Everything stays in your browser. Your board is saved automatically on this device so it is there when you come back. Use Save to file to keep a copy or move it to another device.

How do I export my drawing?

Open the menu at the top left and choose Export PNG, Export PNG (transparent) or Export PDF. If you select some shapes first, only the selection is exported.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

V select, K laser pointer, H hand, R rectangle, D diamond, O ellipse, A arrow, L line, P draw, T text, E eraser, 9 insert image. Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z redo, Ctrl+D duplicate, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V copy and paste, Delete removes, hold Space to move around, and Ctrl plus the mouse wheel zooms.

Can I draw on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Draw with your finger or pen, pinch with two fingers to zoom and pan, and open the style button to change colours and line width.

What is the laser pointer?

Press K or pick the laser tool, then hold the mouse or your finger down and move. A red trail follows your pointer and fades away after a second. It is not saved or exported, so it is ideal for pointing things out while presenting or screen sharing.

Can I use Arabic text?

Yes. Double-click the canvas or use the text tool and type in Arabic or English. Arabic text is written right to left.

Can I turn on dark mode?

Yes. Open the menu and choose Dark canvas. Your drawing is shown with inverted colours and the setting is remembered.
